Country Flow

By July 8, 2015 Jonathan

We drove out, into the flow of cornfields, passing a few whitewashed farmsteads and big red barns. The phone and internet didn’t buzz, it could not reach this beauty. The gravel sang as we pulled up to a rustic wooden cabin, the fizz & clank of a bottle opened and poured, the sizzle of appetites thankfully satisfied.

A tinge of red in buttery clouds, a scent of rain arriving late, heavy thick and refreshing. Lighting bugs celebrated the fall of light. Distant voices of farmhands rang. A dog barked, crickets chirped. Amazed, I sat beside beloved ones on a long wooden porch swing, absorbing, drinking, delighting in the silence, the thrill, the warmth and chill, of life.
